Wisconsin Labor and Employment Attorneys
Since its inception, Garvey McNeil & McGillivray has made labor and employment law a cornerstone of our practice, rooted in Ed Garvey's experience with the National Football League Players' Association (NFLPA), which he directed for over a decade.
Our labor and employment attorneys have represented individuals fighting employment discrimination and retaliation based on gender, race, age, disability, and assertion of civil rights, including First Amendment rights.
Victims of sexual harassment in the workplace have turned to us for representation and have won judgments against their employer. Likewise, our firm has been retained by persons whose employers have violated the terms of their employment contracts. We have also gained the trust of teachers, administrators and others in the educational community on a variety of work-related issues.
Our attorneys have also represented retirees in bankruptcy proceedings. In one important case, we obtained over $30 million in benefits for our clients.
Our work on labor and employment issues has led GMM attorneys to appear in state and federal court, administrative hearings, and internal University of Wisconsin proceedings. We have also taken part in mediation and settlement negotiations, collective bargaining and other venues to provide the best representation to our clients on these important issues.
For instance, on behalf of five unions at the Golden Books publishing facility, GMM entered into negotiations with management and successfully obtained a new agreement that saved jobs and maintained health and pension benefits for Golden Books' employees. Additionally, we helped create an employee ownership group and have worked with employees to develop equity interests in their business.
